Be a part of The Muni Theatre's History

Friday, 20th September 2019

Pendle Leisure Trust is proud to announce it has successfully secured funding to create a Memory Map for the Muni Theatre in Colne.

The Trust is to receive £8,200 funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for this exciting project, which has been made possible through money raised by National Lottery players.

Working in partnership with Pendle Borough Council, The Evaluator and Insitu to deliver community engagement activities and events, the Trust will be asking people to look back on their earliest memories in order to identify how the Muni shaped the lives of people in Colne and the surrounding area.

As an organisation, Pendle Leisure Trust is recognised for its approach in supporting a diverse range of community projects that have enriched the lives of local people.

The Muni Theatre is a significant civic building within Colne and has been part of the town’s character since 1902. It has historic connections to the industrial development of Colne and the important rise of local government influence during the Industrial Revolution.

The Trust’s Grant Funding Manager, Kathy Titterton, said: “This is fantastic news, as to our knowledge there is no comprehensive history of the Muni, so it is important to capture people’s memories before they are lost forever.

This initial project will gather information which will be used to create a report and an activity plan for an in-depth creative public engagement programme that will be woven through a larger project to help the Trust secure a future for this important heritage. The stories captured will be interpreted in creative and accessible ways and shared with the community, as well as submitted to the Lancashire Archives for posterity.”
